*violin only. Case & bow sold separately
This violin was made in Saxony around the 19th century (130 years old), likely in the Klingenthal area. Klingenthal is situated on the border with the Czech Republic and is only 15 km away from the Markneukirchen, the other great violin center in Saxony.
Like many German trade instruments of the period, the violin was made to look antique. It has a beautiful chocolatey dark varnish with patina and a flat-arch to the top. Fake “antiquing” marks can be seen on the back of the violin.
The violin has a two-piece back of maple and a front of even grained spruce.
This violin was acquired from a dealer, Dominic Allen (Caritas Violins Limited) in Nottinghamshire U.K. England in September of 2022. Restoration and setup was completed in November 2022 by Jeffrey Forbes (Forbes Violins) in Idaho Falls and included: opening the lower seams to redistribute plate overhang and re glue the lower block, replacing the lower block, new custom-shaped bridge, new: sound post, pegs, nut, tailpiece, and strings.
Comes with new Helicore strings and a new tailpiece with built-in fine tuners.
